How it works

At A Peixeira do Talatona, products are sold by the kilogram. The purchase price is calculated from the product's original weight, before cleaning and cutting.

How selling by weight works: weighing, cleaning, cutting, tray packing and final packaging

Our process

1. Weighing

The whole fish is weighed before any preparation. The price is calculated from this weight and the stated price per kilogram.

2. Cleaning

Depending on the product, we remove scales, entrails, fins, the head, skin or other parts that will not be used.

3. Cutting

When available, the product can be prepared whole, cleaned, in steaks, fillets, loins, medallions or another cut shown on its product page.

4. Placing in a tray

Once cleaned and cut, the product is carefully arranged in a food-safe tray.

5. Packaging

The tray is protected and packed to preserve hygiene, quality and freshness until delivery.

Why is the final weight lower?

Cleaning always causes a natural loss of weight. The removed parts are no longer included in the prepared product, so the net weight delivered will be lower than the original weight used to calculate the price.

The reduction varies according to the species, product size and requested cut. For this reason, an exact net weight after cleaning cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Example: when you buy a whole 2 kg fish and request cleaning, the price is calculated from the original 2 kg. After the unused parts are removed, the final weight will be lower.
